Mohammad Jafar Iqbal is a prominent writer in Bangladesh and Bangla literature.
Mohammad Jafar Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet. His father name is Fayzur Rahman who was a police officer. His mother name is Ayesha Foyez. His father was killed in 1971 during the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Mohammad Iqbal has married Dr. Yasmeen Haque in 1978. This couple has two children a son named Nabil and a daughter named Yeshim.
Mohammad Jafar Iqbal has two brothers who are also prominent in the Bangla literature. Humayun Ahmed is his elder brother who is the most prominent Bangla novelist in Bangladesh. Ahsan Habib is his younger brother who has written also some Bangla books and editor of Bangla magazine Unmad.

Mohammad Jafar Iqbal has worked as a research scientist in Bell Communication Research from 1988 to 1994. After that, he joined as a professor of department CSE and EEE at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
